A rosary will be said for Frank Hernandez, 67, at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 37 N. West St. in Yerington. A funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the church. A reception will follow the service.

Mr. Hernandez died Sept. 10, 2006. He was born Oct. 15, 1938, in Wells.

He married Leonarda on June 18, 1966, in Elko.

He grew up in Elko and graduated from Elko High School in 1956. He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1962.

He served in the U.S. Army for two years. He joined the Nevada National Guard Band in 1975.

He was a member of the 59th Army National Band, also known as the Governor's Band of California, in Sacramento, playing with them until 1998.

He taught high school for 36 years, 34 of them at Yerington High. He retired in 2005.

He enjoyed music, having played the trumpet for over 50 years. He also played tennis, ran marathons, and was active in his church.

Among his survivors are his mother; his wife of 40 years; sons Raul, Francisco and Ricardo Hernandez; daughter, Raquel Hernandez; brother, Raul Hernandez; and sister, Aurora Minard.

Memorial donations may be made to Yerington High School, 114 Pearl St., Yerington, NV 89447.

Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home in Yerington is in charge of arrangements.
