Chad Lundquist/Nevada Appeal Four people were injured in an accident Tuesday on Curry Street near Koontz Lane, when a yellow 1970s Camaro struck a second vehicle head-on. A passenger in the Camaro had to be extricated, and he was taken by helicopter to Washoe Medical Center.
Four people were injured Tuesday in a late afternoon head-on accident on Curry Street near Koontz Lane.
Witness Vinnie Piazza said a yellow 1970s Camaro was southbound on Curry Street and a burgundy Mitsubishi Galant was northbound when the two vehicles collided.
"I heard screeching, and when I looked, I could see the Camaro's brakes were locked," said Piazzo, who was at work at Carson City Mazda and Hyundai when the accident happened.
Piazza said that immediately after the crash, three men jumped from the Camaro, and two fled into the Carson Colony.
The third man was bleeding from the head, and Piazzo said that man stumbled toward Gilson Auto Body on Moses Street where employees there took him to the hospital.
According to Deputy Bob Guimont, a passenger in the Camaro had to be extricated, and he was taken by helicopter to Washoe Medical Center with "massive head injuries" consistent with hitting the Camaro's windshield.
Guimont said the driver of the Galant was wearing his seat belt and was protected by an airbag, but complained of pain in his chest and stomach from the airbag's deployment.
About an hour after the collision, two teens, ages 17 and 15, returned to the scene with their parents and admitted they'd run from the accident.
Guimont said there were beer cans in the Camaro, and the man they suspect was the driver was going to undergo a blood test. Guimont estimated the Camaro's speed in excess of 60 mph.
The names of those involved were not available Tuesday night.
