The Carson High girls golf team continued to show improvement with another second place finish in a Sierra League Tournament on Tuesday at Eagle Valley's East Course.
For the third straight week, Carson finished second to Reno High with a score of 490. Reno finished with a 468. Lydia Peri returned to form for Carson, shooting an 86 to finish third in the individual standings.
After struggling last week, Peri returned to the form she showed when she shot a 79 to win low medalist honors in the first event of the year at Genoa Lakes. Peri was in contention for low medalist honors on Tuesday as she finished behind two Reno golfers, who scored 82 and 85.
Peri's score could have been even better as she overcame two holes in which she took an eight.
"Lydia played very well," Carson coach Terry Gingell said. "I'm really impressed with her play. She can still improve."
Carson had four golfers who shot under 100. Michelle Kop had her best score of the year with a 95, Sarah Metcalf shot a 97 and Chelsea Keating had a 99.
It was the first time Keating has scored under 100. To show her improvement, Keating competed in just one tournament last year where she shot a 139. Also for Carson, Melanie Gingell shot a 113 and Taylor Stokes fired a 117.
"We were really steady from top to bottom," coach Gingell said. "I know we're still improving.
"We'll keep improving, I'm certain of it. I'm happy with them. They're doing a good job."
The next Sierra League event will be held this Tuesday at Rosewood Lakes.
