Dayton Valley Days this weekend

The 18th annual Dayton Valley Days street fair will be Saturday and Sunday in Old Town.

The event will include a parade, show 'n' shine car show, a fine-arts show and sale, train rides, games for the kids, entertainment, crafts, antique dealers and vendors of all kinds.

The event is sponsored by the Lyon County Sheriff's Search and Rescue and benefits that group and the Dayton Historical Society. Call 246-1630.

Fun walk-run aids youth programs

A 5K-, 10K-, 2-mile walk and 1-mile fun run will begin at 8 a.m. Oct. 14 off Old Dayton Valley Road in Dayton and will go toward Como Peak.

Entry fee is $25 per person or $40 for youth and adult walking or running the course together; $8 for the 1-mile fun run. Fees are due by Sept. 22. Late entries are $30 per person. Entry fee includes T-shirt, raffle and refreshments.

Proceeds benefit Central Lyon County youth programs. Call 246-0320.

Candidates to address GOP women

Two candidates for Fernley City Council will speak at the meeting of the Fernley Republican Women at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Truck Inn in Fernley.

The two candidates are Ward I Councilman Rick Jones, Councilman and business owner Charles Shepperd.

Mound House

Blood drive and Mammovan at church

Bread of Life Christian Fellowship is sponsoring a blood drive and a visit by the Nevada Health Centers Mammovan on Sept. 29 in Mound House. A nurse will give free blood pressure checks and health-related information.

The church and the Mound House Business and Community Association have scheduled this event to help build community awareness and participation

Silver Springs

Farm to feature organic farm Fun Day

Custom Gardens Organic Farm in Silver Springs will be hosting two other Lyon County Certified Organic Producers for a Farmers Fun Day Harvest from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 15.

The three farms to be represented are Churchill Butte Horticulture of Stagecoach, Home Grown Nevada of Wellington and the host farm, Custom Gardens, 3701 Elm St. in Silver Springs.

A variety of produce, vegetables and fruit, grown at the three local farms will be available for fresh food shoppers. Senior citizens may redeem Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons for fresh produce.

Founders Day event set for Oct. 14

Silver Springs will celebrate Founders Day on Oct. 14 with a breakfast, parade and vendors and other events at the park.

The event will run from 7 a.m.-3 p.m.

Wild-horse workshop slated Oct. 18-22

Least Resistance Training Concepts will host a wild-horse workshop Oct. 18-22.

The group will be gentling horses that will be available for adoption - the adoption auction will be held at noon on Oct. 21.

Virginia City

341 truck route closed for muscle cars

Saturday and Sunday will find Ferraris, Porches, Vipers and other muscle cars racing up State Route 341, the truck route, for the Virginia City Hill Climb. The truck route, running from the turnout at Silver City up to Virginia City, will be closed from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

State Route 342, which runs from Silver City through Gold Hill up to Virginia City, will remain open.
