The Carson Senator Junior Midgets defense and special teams were too much for the Reno Ravens as the Senators came away from Saturday's game with a 32-0 victory.
Carson's Logan Peternell blocked two Panther punts, while Dylan Sawyers scored Carson's third touchdown on a 55-yard punt return in which Patrick Hesse and Chance Quilling made key blocks, which allowed Sawyers to score.
Carson's kicking game was also an asset on Saturday where Austin Pacheco and Chance Quilling were a combined 4-for-4 on PATs (Pacheco was 3-for-3 and Quilling was 1-for-1). Pacheco also had a 47-yard punt, which pinned the Ravens deep on their own territory.
Carson's defense was stingy most of the day, never allowing the Ravens beyond the Carson 40-yard line. The defense comprised of Colby Blueberg, Patrick Craugh, Devon Harrill, Patrick Hesse, Rafe King, Jacob Myers, Carter Nuckles, Pacheco, Peternell, Gabriel Pongasi, Sawyers, Jimmy TenEyck, Zack White and Joe Zinda were tenacious all game long, frustrating the Ravens for most of the game. Pacheco also contributed by picking off his second interception in as many games.
"I've got to hand it to our defense, I was impressed with the way they controlled the game" defensive line coach Junior Lopez stated. "We only gave up one 10 yard play and then the rest of the plays were pretty minimal. I'll take that all day long."
Carson ran a balanced offensive attack this week, running the ball 22 times and passing 15. Carson's first touchdown came on a 31-yard pass from Quilling to Pongasi. Providing great protection for Quilling all day were Keegan Aiazzi, Levi Carter, Bryce Collings, Alex Crathers, Nick Garcia, Rage King, Jacob Myers, and Joe Zinda.
In the second quarter Quilling would take it in himself keeping the ball and rolling to the right side for 5-yard score and Carson's second touchdown. Quilling wasn't done there.
Later in the fourth quarter Quilling would connect with Blueberg for a 22-yard touchdown pass. Quilling would finish the day 10-for-15 for 97 yards and three touchdowns (2 passing and 1 rushing).
The ground game was as effective as the passing game. Blueberg, Craugh, Myers, Pacheco, Quilling, Sawyers and Zinda would combine for 88 yards rushing.
This was the Senators' 24th straight victory in Nevada over the last three years at different levels. This was also the Senators' 17th shutout in the past 24 games. Carson will travel to South Tahoe this Saturday at 4 p.m. to take on the Vikings.
