Carson spikers pick up big win against Tahoe

The Carson High volleyball team picked up its biggest win of the season to stay in the thick of the Northern 4A playoff race.

Carson swept past South Tahoe 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 on Tuesday at Morse Burley Gym to gain an early upper hand against one of the teams it figures to be battling for a playoff berth. The Senators improved to 3-2 in the Sierra League.

"That was huge," Carson coach Shana Wilkins said. "We haven't beaten South Tahoe for a few years. That was a big win for us.

"We had a few kids that just had phenomenal games. We've been working hard in practice. We have the skills. We just played as a team."

Carson put together a 6-1 run in game three to close out the match. Kailey Taylor's quick hit off of a set from Lindsay Ford gave the Senators an 18-16 lead, but South Tahoe came back to go ahead 20-19. The Senators then reeled off four straight points before Morgan Nuckolls had back-to-back kills to close out the match. Taylor had seven kills, Nikki Keller had four kills, four digs and two blocks, Danae Eckart and Nuckolls each had four kills, Mavil Diaz had three aces, Blaike King had three aces, two kills, two digs and a block and Ford had 31 assists.

CHS JVS 2, SOUTH TAHOE 0

Carson won the junior varsity match 25-19, 25-22. Karli Dodge had five kills, Meagan Nuckolls had one dig, two aces and 11 assists, Kristina Diamond had two kills and a block, Sarah Kerkla had a dig, Hannah Dudley had three kills and an ace, Brittney Sly had two kills, two aces and two blocks, Brittany Wyatt had three digs, Lisa Shores had two digs, Samantha Hoch had two kills and two blocks and Megan Hein added a kill.

CHS FROSH 2, SOUTH TAHOE 0

Carson (13-2) won the freshmen match 25-21, 25-17, Amanda Rupert had two kills and an ace, Alexis Church had one dig and nine aces, Andrea Clutska had three kills and four aces, Katie Carlevato had one kill and seven assists, Bree Young ahd two kills and an ace, Kendra Krupp had two kills and a block, Sara Anderson had six assists, Kelly Kerkla had two aces and a block, Kaitlin Berkich had two aces and Jamie Showalter added two kills.
