Carson City


Free flu shots Oct. 7


With the flu season quickly approaching, Carson City Health and Human Services wants to help residents beat the bug.


A limited supply of free flu shots will be offered to the public from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Oct. 7 at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. All flu shots are no cost, and will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents younger than 6 months old won't be given flu shots by the city. Call 887-2190 for details.




Childbirth education classes at Carson Tahoe


From Oct. 5-26 Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center will be holding the Childbirth Education Series from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays in Carson Tahoe's Bristlecone Room. Reservations are required.

Library storytimes resume twice a week


The Carson City Library Youth Department has resumed its storytime schedule at 10:15 and 10:45 a.m. Thursday and Friday mornings.


Free admission tickets are required and are available at the youth desk prior to each program. This schedule runs through Nov. 17. Day-care groups are not admitted. This program is designed for preschoolers, young elementary students, parents and caregivers. Call 887-2244.


Shade Tree Council meets Thursday


The Carson City Shade Tree Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Capitol Conference Room at City Hall, 201 N. Carson St. Enter from Musser Street. Topics include the Shade Tree Honor Roll program and writing a letter of concern about the trees outside the State Library and Archives.




Library board of trustees to meet Thursday


The Carson City Library Board of Trustees will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sierra Room at the Community Center, 851 E. William St. Items on the agenda include recruitment of a library director, how the board should evaluate that employee's work performance in the future, and the proposed ballot initiative to help pay for library needs.




Think Pink kickoff slated


The Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness kickoff party will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Red's Old 395 Grill. Participants who wear their Think Pink T-shirts will receive complimentary appetizers. For information and to get a T-shirt, call 885-4281.




Douglas County


Audiologist to perform hearing check-ups


Dr. Christopher Harjes of Audiology and Hearing Aids of Nevada, will be making his monthly visit to the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane in Gardnerville, from 10 a.m.-noon Thursday.

Sparks


RTC open house today


The Regional Transportation Commission will host a community open house at 6:30 p.m. today at the Lazy Five Regional Park's Cottonwood Room to discuss proposed improvements to the intersection of La Posada and Eagle Canyon Drive on the Pyramid Highway in Sparks.
