CASA to begin volunteer training
CASA of Carson City will begin training CASA volunteers from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Carson City Juvenile Court, 1545 E. Fifth St.
Volunteers are appointed as guardian ad litem by Carson City's Juvenile Court to advocate for best interest of the child in child welfare cases when children are removed from the home due to abuse or neglect. The public is invited to attend the first class to learn more about CASA.

Democrats to hold open house, meeting
Carson City Democrats will host an open house at 6 p.m. Wednesday at their new headquarters, 2101 Arrowhead Drive, No. 102. Sandwiches and soft drinks will be served.
A meeting will be held after the open house. Guest speakers will be Michael Mitchell, Carson City School District, regarding the school bond and Bonnie Parnell, Assembly District 40 on her re-election campaign.

Alzheimer's caregivers classes at the senior center
The Alzheimer's Association will be holding a six-week program for caregivers for those with Alzheimer's from 5 - 7 p.m. Wednesdays starting this Wednesday at the Carson City Senior Center.

Bookstore to hold fundraiser for Kenyan villages
Sundance Bookstore will be holding a fundraiser to benefit Rabondo and Megwarra, two Kenyan villages. Reno Gazette-Journal photographer Candice Towell will be giving a slideshow presentation at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the store, located at 1155 W. Fourth St. no. 106. Towell will also be selling her photographs and African crafts. 100 percent of the proceeds go directly to improve the quality of education, healthcare and water in the two struggling Kenyan villages. Photographers displayed at 'Sierra Autumn'
The work of local photographers' fall photos will be on display at the Bartley Ranch Regional Park during the month of October for the annual Sierra Autumn" exhibit, which showcases the Sierra during the fall season. This exhibit will be on display at the park's Western Heritage Interpretive Center from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day. Admission is free. For information call 828-6612.
