The Carson Senator Junior Midget youth football team posted its 25th straight victory in Nevada and its 18th shutout last Saturday by defeating the South Tahoe Vikings 28-0.
Carson would overcome first quarter blunders in which the Senators turned the ball over on their first three possessions. But in the second quarter, everything went the Senators way.
Carson's first score came on a 77-yard pass from Chance Quilling to wide Gabriel Pongasi. Quilling would also hit Alex Crathers and Colby Blueberg throughout the game..
Providing great outstanding protection and opening holes for the running game were Keegan Aiazzi, Levi Carter, Bryce Collings, Crathers, Nick Garcia, Rafe King, Jacob Myers and Joe Zinda.
"Our pass blocking has been fantastic all year long" offensive line coach Mike Pacheco said. "Because so many teams are now keying on Dylan Sawyers, it has opened up our passing game and the line has stepped up to the plate and provided the protection Chance needs."
There is a reason teams are keying on Sawyers. Over the past two and a half years, Sawyers has scored more than 45 touchdowns and again during the Tahoe game Sawyers busted another one loose, this time scampering 43 yards for the score.
That wouldn't be the end of the scoring for the Senators in the second quarter. Pongasi would again score, intercepting a pass and retuning it 36 yards for the touchdown.
The defense was not done scoring in the second quarter. This time Austin Pacheco would make a great leaping interception and then return it 47 yards for Carson's fourth touchdown of the quarter. Pacheco would also go 2-for-4 on PAT's.
Carson's defense was strong throughout the game. Blueberg, Patrick Craugh, Devon Harrill, Patrick Hesse, King, Myers, Carter Nuckles, Pacheco, Logan Peternell, Pongasi, Sawyers, Jimmy TenEyck, Zack White and Zinda all helped contribute to the Senators' 18th shutout.
Besides the picks by Pacheco and Pongasi, Peternell blocked a punt. Tahoe's only threat was stopped when Pacheco stripped the ball and Blueberg recovered.
The Senators (3-0) have a bye this week, but will put up its unblemished record against the 2-1 Sparks Steelers at noon Saturday, Oct. 7 at Governor's Field.
