BLUE LAKES AREA, CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930): Campgrounds still open. They are catching fish, but not a lot of limits. Two guys each caught 3 rainbows at Upper Blue on Sunday.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: Randy Picton of the Bridgeport Reservoir RV Park and Marina (888-377-1677): Fair to moderate. Watch for rapid weather changes next week. With the few boats going out last week, two came in with limits, up to three pounds. I say go for inflated nightcrawlers along the weed beds and around the springs.

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that a fisherman caught a 5.75 pound rainbow and a 4.75 pound rainbow at the spillway on Monday with rainbow Power Bait.

CARSON RIVERS, CALIF:

East Carson River: Fishing was real good, with great Autumn conditions, especially for the fly fishermen.

West Carson River: It was fairly quiet over the weekend.

The fall colors of the Quaking Aspen are spectacular, right now.

CROWLEY LAKE, CALIF: Steven Osterman of Performance Anglers of Mammoth Lakes (760) 924-2181 reported: The lake is fishing well in the north arm near the mouth of the Owens river. Streamer fishing and Midge fishing have both been productive with Stevie's Wonder Gray/Black, Stevie's Z and Hornburgs.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot, Calif. (530-993-4683): A father and son from Reno each caught their limit of rainbows, averaging 14-16 inches and 1.5-2 pounds. They were bank fishing with nightcrawlers and Wedding Rings at the old boat ramp. We've also had good reports on the bank fishing at the dam and at Crystal Point. Some are using nightcrawlers and others are having good luck with Chartreuse Power Bait. Fly fishing has been good at the north end near the inlet. Try Pheasant tail flies.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that the fishing continues to improve with the cooler weather. Nothing big but some fish being caught.

JUNE LAKE LOOP, CALIF: Steven Osterman reported: Some nice fish starting to show up in Grant Lake at the mouth of Rush Creek. Try Matukas, black or purple Woolly Buggers and Hale-Bopp Leeches. Rush Creek: Try Black Ants, Humpies and Royal Coachmen.

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV: Don Hettrick and Don Quilici, both of Carson City and Rich Bachle of Fernley, each caught and released about one hundred White Bass, last Thursday morning, on different, small lures.

MAMMOTH LAKES, CALIF: Steven Osterman: Fly rodders casting purple Woolly Buggers, G's Catch 'em All and cinnamon Leeches have been scoring well in all the lakes. Also try a Stevie's Wonder, under an indicator or hung in the film.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Valerie at Crosby's Lodge at (775) 476-0400 reported: Fishing was wonderful on the Opening Day. Jim Byrd caught a 10-pound, 8-ounce (28.5 inches) Cutthroat from a boat at Spider Point. Lots of fishermen and the weather was pretty good, even though, we had wind and rain in the afternoon.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Andy at the Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks at 358-6113 reported: Opening day was really good, the trollers did the best.

Trollers: One guy caught and released 50-60 fish, trolling 60 feet deep with U-20 Flatfish and Apex lures in the Pelican Point area. Spincasters: Did best with frog-colored or Fire Tiger Crocodile lures. Fly Guys: Doing OK on Jaw Breaker Woolly Bugger flies.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Carla Molino of the Pyramid Lake Store at (775) 476-0555 reported: Opening day was really good. There were lots of fishermen and the boats did the best. Boaters caught anywhere from a dozen to 70 Cutthroat. The biggest that we saw was a 9.5 pounder, caught from a boat. George (Pyramid Lake Charters) caught and released about 20 fish on each of his half-day charters over the weekend. The fly fishermen were hanging tough at "The Nets."

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Dave Kirby reported that his fishing party caught and released 16 cutthroat on Monday, including one "double hook-up." They were trolling with Flatfish lures at Pelican Point. Their largest Cutt was 5.5 pounds (26 inches). There were a lot of boats, but not as many as he expected.

SACRAMENTO RIVER: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing, Redding, Calif. (800-670-4448): Water flows are 7,000 CFS. King Salmon: Fishing for Kings is good. Limits are common now. Currently catching 8-10 fish per day. Fishing the Anderson area now, seeing limits. Watch for the Kings to be better shape as November and December roll around, with the rain will come new, bright fish .We should see these months produce even bigger kings and awesome King salmon fishing. Salmon being caught using Flatfish lures, T-50's , Chrome, in color, with a sardine wrap. All salmon are 20 pounds average, big salmon.

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF: Carolyn Webb of the Virginia Lakes Resort: Alper's put in some beauties along with the regular weekly stock of rainbows from DF&G, and the Susanville Browns are circling the lake making ready for their spawn in a few short weeks. Lures for the week were gold Little Cleo, red/gold Thomas Buoyant, red/gold Hot Shot, and gold prism Kastmasters. Worms and Chartreuse Power Worms were the special on the menu for the week, using dry fly hooks for quick release (unharmed) if you so choose. Salmon eggs did well along with marshmallows, but were better when used together. Flies for the week were mainly emergers, RS2, WD-40 in sizes 20-24, translucent Scuds in cream, olive Woolly Buggers and the infamous yellow Stimulator.

WALKER RIVERS, CALIF: Steven Osterman reported: East Walker River: The flow in the river is currently 189 CFS. Fishing is good. Soft hackle Hare's Ears, driftless Caddis, peeking Caddis and gray WD-40'S.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR, NEV: Dennis Dunn at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472: The weather is pretty good right now, the sun is shining, but it was drizzling yesterday (Monday). The fishing is HOT, HOT, HOT in the Owyhee River, for about the first mile below the dam. They are catching some very nice trout and Channel Catfish. One young boy came out of there with a Catfish, whose head was as big as his. We have a lot of hunters camping out in this area, right now.
