OK, I'm in trouble when I get an e-mail asking to clarify the difference between outstanding chefs and "my favorite cooks." I concede.

Charles Abowd from Adele's and Jerry Massad from the Cracker Box are not mere cooks; they are amazing chefs. So my apologies, Charlie and Jerry, for underplaying your tasty abilities.

These two chefs will be hosting lunch for the 15th annual golf tournament for the Community Counseling Center, a nonprofit that helps so many in our community. This year, there have been many charitable golf tournaments, and I want to thank all of you who participate. The nonprofits cannot do what they do without you. There is a tremendous need for the Community Counseling Center, and you golfers have been so supportive.

The Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Auxiliary is having a "meet and greet" at another great golf course in town, Silver Oaks.

This month's theme is "Think Pink" to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month. If you want to join some ladies who truly make a difference for so many, come check them out.

What does the CTRH Auxiliary do? They not only help raise money to support the hospital, but raise awareness of and assist the Regional Medical Center and nursing scholarships, just to name a few things. To help out or become a member, spend lunch with the ladies at the country club.

Court Appointed Special Advocates is another rewarding organization that needs volunteers. Across the nation, there are 900 CASA program sites and approximately 52,000 CASA volunteers speaking for an estimated 206,000 abused and neglected children.

CASA of Carson City is run by my friend Chris Bayer, and he needs you to get involved and become a CASA volunteer.

CASA volunteers, once cleared and trained, are appointed as guardians by Carson City's Juvenile Court to advocate for the best interests of children in child-welfare cases when they have been removed from the home due to abuse or neglect. It takes time and a caring person, but what is more important then saving a child?
