The Shroy boys - Chad and Richard - turned in impressive efforts to lead an outstanding effort for the Carson High boys and girls cross country teams at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday.
Runners from all over the country competed in the event, with Carson participating in the big schools division. Chad Shroy took 11th out of about 360 runners in the boys race, finishing the 5K event in 16 minutes, 8 seconds. Richard Shroy was 19th in 16:21.
Also for Carson, Caleb Carter, Nick Schlager, Ethan Graber, Andrew Stephenson and Zach Mapes were all able to finish in the top 100.
For the girls, Christy Works was 31st in 19:42, Yvonne Hollett was 61st in 20:14, Gloria Sosa was 65th in 20:16, Kristen Dockery finished 78th in 20:30, Yvette Hollett finished in 20:30, Jenny Mital finished in 21.05 and Meagan Meyer finished in 21:23.
"It ran fast," said Carson assistant coach Jeanne Stelzer about the course. "The weather was gorgeous. The kids ran awesome. They ran really well."
"They went out fast," Stelzer also said about the Shroys. "They went out and held their positions."
