New twist on a classic tale

Not so long ago, in a neighborhood really not very far away, a Carson High School senior took a classic fairy tale, added some modern amenities and a new twist and then brought it to the stage.

Caitie Berger chose to take on the makeover of the classic fairy tale for her Carson High School senior project. "Twinderella," a Fairytale Theater presentation of Carson High School Performing Arts, will be presented 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Carson City Community Center.

The updated story finds Cinderella, played by Alicia Freeman, still at the mercy of her wicked stepfamily, who force her to rotate their tires and polish their bowling trophies. The story also introduces Bob, Cinderella's long lost twin brother, played by Ryan Wong.

Bob's predicament isn't any better, with his wicked stepfather and brothers forcing him to organize their sock drawers. Their situations seem hopeless until the UPS guy brings word of a birthday ball and kingdom-wide baseball game.

"I have always loved shows where a classic fairy tale is updated to fit into society now but is still able to entertain children and adults," Berger said.

With the help of their respective godparents and a couple of enchanted gerbils, the twins set off for the festivities. After Cinderella hits a game-winning home run, the twins are forced to disappear at midnight.

A twist of events leads the royal family in search of the owners of the glass slipper and the muddy cleat.

In addition to the performance for the public, the cast has been giving performances to local kindergarten and day-care centers throughout the area this week.

Tickets for the show are available for $5 for general admission and $3 for seniors, students and children. Carson City School District, city and state employees will be admitted free with identification.
