BAC Stage Kids bring classic 'Snow White' back to life

Tim Kelly was a newspaperman who edged over into writing plays, eventually creating more than 300 productions. One of those is his version of the Snow White fairy tale. He had a vision of theater for children, and "Snow White" is part of that dream.

"Essentially, I'm a storyteller. To a certain extent, I suppose, I do favor plot over character. What advice would I give to the aspiring playwright? Don't let anyone put you or your play down. If you don't believe in your play, no one else will. And remember -there are no creative absolutes. Don't let anyone tell you differently."

The BAC Stage Kids open their production of Tim Kelly's "Snow White," his colorful and endearing adaptation of the classic fairy tale.

The show will run two weekends in the Donald W. Reynolds Black Box Theatre at the Brewery Arts Center.

The fairy tale is about the young Snow White and the envy of the queen, who longs to be the fairest of them all but her magic mirror says Snow White is fairest. Snow White lived with the Seven Dwarfs and is poisoned by the queen, but she is saved in a glass casket until the king's son comes by and revives her.

That's the basic story and it was told by Walt Disney in one of his early animation films and has become a classic. But classics have a habit of changing, and "Snow White" is an example of that.

The classic comes to Carson City now.

The cast is comprised of children ages 6-10, who are cast in such roles as Snow White, the Prince, the Wicked Queen, and of course, the seven dwarfs.

Incorporating modern sights and sounds into the traditional values and enchantment of this timeless tale, BAC Stage Kids production of "Snow White" is aimed to delight audiences, young and old alike. The show has been double cast.

Leading the cast and crew of more than 30 local children are Rebecca Martin and Sarah White as Snow White and Aubrey Alotta and Emma Sperry as the Wicked Queen.

"I am incredibly proud and continually amazed by this great group of kids," Andie Anderson, head of the BAC Stage Kids theater program and director of "Snow White," said. "Even our youngest company members get a chance to really shine in this charming production."
