A wildland brush fire that sparked at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday afternoon has closed Highway 395 between Riverview Drive in Gardnerville and China Spring Road near Holbrook Junction.
The fire started somewhere near the Power Dam and quickly jumped the highway, threatening homes in Ruhenstroth.
The spread of the fire is classified as moderate to rapid and it is creating large clouds of smoke south of town to the point where it is making visibility difficult while driving the roads.
The immediate cause of the fire is not yet known but investigators from the District Attorney's office have been requested.
