Memorial services for Ralph O. Elvik, 83, a 17-year resident of Jacks Valley will be 3 p.m. Sept. 6 at the First United Methodist Church in Carson City.

Mr. Elvik died Aug. 20, 2007, at his home. He was born May 13, 1924, to John and Anna Elvik in Carthage, S.D.

He graduated from Carthage High School and California State University, Long Beach.

He married Constance Dilly in 1948.

He was a veteran of World War II serving as a noncommissioned officer in the U.S. Marine Corps stationed at a remote island air base in the South Pacific Theater.

Before moving to Jacks Valley he lived in Sioux City, Iowa and Southern California.

He was an electrical engineer retiring from Beckman Instruments in Fullerton, Calif., after 38 years. He enjoyed skiing, local and national politics, the arts and world travel. He was a volunteer for service projects and fundraising in the Carson Valley.

Among his survivors are his wife of 58 years; his son and daughter-in-law Arlen and DeeDee Elvik of Corona, Calif.; son Laurence John Elvik of Valley Center, Calif.; brothers Mores, John Jr. and Grant; sisters Agnes, Mildreth and Ruth; and six grandchildren.

Neptune Society of Reno is in charge of arrangements.
