Carson City's new Health and Human Services director will begin work Tuesday.

Vicky Fogelman, a Carson City resident and retired Air Force colonel, was division manager for public health preparedness, communicable disease, and vital statistics for El Dorado County, Calif.

Previously she worked with the Nevada State Health Division as veterinarian and epidemiologist from 2003-05.

Fogelman holds a bachelor's degree in animal science and biology and a doctorate in veterinary medicine from Ohio State University. She obtained her master's degree in epidemiology from John Hopkins University School of Public Health in Baltimore, Md.

"We are very pleased to have someone of Ms. Fogelman's education and experience with Health and Human Services and look forward to her leadership and contributions to the department," said City Manager Linda Ritter.

The Health and Human Services Department is located at 900 East Long St.

The previous head of that department, Daren Winkelman, resigned in the spring and now works for the Nevada State Health Division.
