Decathlete Bryan Clay of the United States won't be able to defend his title at the World Track Championships in Japan as he had to pull out of the competition with an injury.
Clay appeared to be in strong position to defend his title when he stood in third place with 3,558 points after the first four events on Friday. But after the fourth event, the high jump, Clay had to pull out of the competition after he suffered an apparent pull of his right quadriceps while competing in the high jump.
Clay had posted the best marks in the 100 meters (10.62 seconds, 947 points) and the long jump (25 feet, 1 3/4 inches, 972). He also threw 50-10 3/4 in the shot put (933) and cleared 6-5 1/2 in the high jump (776).
Among Clay's coaches has been Carson City's Kevin Reid.
Garcia shoots an ace at Eagle Valley
Oscar Garcia of Sparks recently shot his first hole-in-one at the Eagle Valley West Course's 16th hole, using a driver from the white tee. Jim Straight, Ryan Ostoj and Jimmy Ibarra witnessed the ace.
