Louis Francis Murphy

Louis Francis Murphy, a 45 year resident of Carson City, died at Evergreen Mountain View on November 23, 2007.

He was born October 28, 1918 in Pennsylvania to Francis and Louveda Moore Murphy. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served twenty-four years, reaching the rank of Major. After his retirement he ran a bowling alley and worked for the State of Nevada serving as Civil Defense Director under Gov. Robert List. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, reading, bowling and making custom fishing rods. At one point he ran a flying school out of the Minden Airport.

He volunteered at the Carson City Library and served a term as President of the Friends of the Library. He also volunteered as a tax aid for ten years in the Senior Tax Program.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marybeth Murphy.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ethel; sons, David of the Philippines, Dennis and his wife Aleta of Carson City, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

No services will be held.

He will be inurned at Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery in Fernley. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Reno, Nevada or to the Carson City Library, 900 N. Roop St. Carson City, NV. 89701
