Charged with rape: Upon complaint of Henry Stephens, the colored man, Henry Henderson, was arrested and lodged in jail, charged with the rape upon the person of Estelle Jose, a girl 15 years of age and who is said to be been examined by Dr. Hogan. The girl claims that about the first of last August, Henry gained admission to her room through a window by means of a ladder. He accomplished his purpose by force. It is almost impossible that such a crime has been committed, but should it prove true, the offender should receive the full penalty of the law. Ð Journal

Another kind of new money: Any old kind of money goes now and the latest is "boozing-house certificates" issued by the "saloons of the area for the Mines Owner to pay off Goldfield. This should be good collateral for their imported "scab miners." But even "boozing-house certificates" is too good money for any man who would "scab" for a day's work.

70 Years Ago

Personal items: Norman Noteware, student at the College of the Pacific, arrived yesterday and will remain in Carson for the Christmas vacation. Gee Hing, who moved away from Carson about eight years ago, after having conducted a dry goods store in this city a quarter of a century, died recently in China. He was about 70 years old.

50 Years Ago

Brownie Troop 17 concluded their first year's activities with a Christmas party. Troop members are Anna Pierini, Gail Clark, Christine Long, Ginger Ogan, Kathy Reil, Jennifer Gubler, Julie Schulz, Neel Tyler, Michelle Supera, Jackie Fettic, Karen Narco and Jackie Crawford.

Jean Ford, director of the Nevada Office of Community Services has announced that the Washoe Tribe will receive $34,748 for the production of public information materials on the innovative geothermal agriculture and aquaculture project at Hobo Hot Springs.
