How she got involved: Savage bought the business in 2006 after moving from Phoenix. She used to be an engineer but said she was overqualified for positions in the area, so decided to try something new.

How she's growing the business: She said she believes in networking and is involved with various business groups. She said she's devoted herself to the business in spite of the new challenges of being an employer rather than an employee.

Why she moved: She wanted to trade heat and congestion of Phoenix for the seasons, recreation and small-town atmosphere of Northern Nevada. She lives in Gardnerville.
