Preparing for childbirth class slated
A four week Childbirth Preparation Series specially designed to introduce expectant parents to the labor process will be hosted by Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. It is recommended enrolling in these classes early in the pregnancy to learn about factors that may affect the birthing process.

Auditions slated for Senior Follies 2008
The Carson City Senior Citizens Center is starting' to "round up" cast members for its annual fundraiser for Meals on Wheels and other senior programs.
This year's Follies Director, Norma Conway, (a.k.a. Annie Oakley), has announced open auditions at 5:30 p.m. Jan 9 in the Nevada Room at the senior center. Auditions are open to all who can sing, dance, play an instrument or have another talent which would fit into the Wild Wild West theme.
Performance dates have been scheduled For May 30, 31 and June 1 at the Carson City Community Center.
Dance auditions will be held at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 16 in the Nevada Room. All who audition will be in the performance in some capacity.

Wild Horse class enrollment
Enrollment is now open for the winter session of Wild Horse Children's Theater's Academy of the Arts - Youth and Teen Classes.
The winter session runs from Jan. 17 through March 7 with classes on Saturdays or after school on Thursdays at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. Acting classes include "Green Eggs and Hamlet," a beginning acting class for 3-5 year olds to Acting 1 and 2 for students ages 6 to 16. There are also one-day Intensive Workshops for students who can commit to only one day, a musical theater class, a world dance class and an audition workshop.

Players to audition for 'Romeo'
Proscenium Players announces auditions for the fourth play of its 2007-2008 season, Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet," directed by Christopher James.
In this emotional and spiritual vision, Shakespeare's play of two innocent young lovers falling victim to family hatred is set in a world that only live theater can bring to life.
Auditions are Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St.. There are 12 roles for both men and women ages 15 to 100. Some traditionally male roles may be cast with a female actress. Auditions consist of cold readings.

Orchestra to present Handel's 'Messiah'
Händel's "Messiah," a masterpiece that has pleased audiences for 266 years, will be performed by TOCCATA - The Orchestra and Community Choral Artists of the Tahoe Area - Jan. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church at 200 Island Ave. in Reno.
The concert will be repeated Jan. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Incline Village and again on Sunday Jan. 6, at 3:30 p.m. in South Lake Tahoe at St. Theresa's Catholic Church.
General admission is $15 per adult and $5 for students with valid ID. Reserved seating is $25 per person. Children under 12 are admitted free with a paying adult.

Free throw competition in Dayton Jan. 12
The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship will be 10 a.m. Jan. 12 at Dayton Intermediate School, 315 Dayton Valley Rd. All boys and girls ages 10-14 are invited to participate in the local level or competition. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent.
