Retired policeman to take seat on DRAC

A retired South Lake Tahoe police officer has been appointed to represent District IV on the Dayton Regional Advisory Council.

Robert Reed, a five-year resident of Dayton was chosen by the Lyon County commissioners over Sandra L. Hudgens, whom Reed called "well qualified."

"I didn't have any lofty agenda, this is just my way of giving back," Reed said. "I've always been very fortunate and I've always been able to work, and this is one way of giving back. These boards can be a lot of work."

Reed, who lives on the Tumble Reed Ranch on Dayton Valley Road, said in his application that he likes to be involved in the community. He also sits on the Central Lyon County Vector Control Board.

After the council was reconfigured in January, no one from District IV applied. So a second set of advertisements went out.

Reed and Hudgens applied, and both were interviewed by a committee consisting of Commissioners Bob Milz and Don Tibbals, Planning Director Rob Loveberg and advisory board liaison Maureen Willis. The committee recommended Reed.

Unhappy with some actions of the old seven-member DRAC, the Lyon County Commissioners created five new districts and a new council to represent those districts. Though the District IV seat was left vacant when no one living in that area applied.

Hudgens, a retired Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles employee and former member of the Las Vegas Planning Commission, has lived in Dayton since 2001.
