Parks and Recreation panel to meet today


The Carson City Parks and Recreation Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. today in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St.


Topics include design concepts, business plan, operating agreement and back-up plan for the joint-use recreation center.


A recommendation to the Board of Supervisors is sought for the design but other related items aren't scheduled for action.


Also being discussed is the status of Treadway Park, near Minnesota Street and Fleishmann Way.


It is owned by Carson-Tahoe Regional Healthcare Center, and city officials are considering whether to acquire it.




Senior center to offer computer classes


The Carson City Senior Citizens Center will offer two computer classes this month. "Introduction to Computers" will meet from 9-11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Monday for four weeks.


The fee for this class is $40 per person.


"Internet Workshop" meets from 1-4 p.m. Feb. 20 and 22.


This class requires a basic computer proficiency. Cost is $20 per person.

Carson City Democrats to meet Wednesday


The Carson City Democrats will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the SNEA Conference Room, 709 E. Robinson St. Guest speaker is Sen. Dina Titus. BLM hosts Reno Black History Month speaker


Geralda Miller, the diversity and general editor for the Reno Gazette-Journal, will present a special program in honor of Black History Month titled "The Not So Sweet Home of Nevada" at 10 a.m. today at the BLM Field Office, 5655 Morgan Mill Road in Carson City. The public is invited to attend this free presentation. Call 885-6112.




Open Space Committee meets this evening


The Carson City Open Space Advisory Committee will meet at 6 p.m. today in the Capitol Conference Room at City Hall, 201 N. Carson St. Members will decide whether to recommend to the Board of Supervisors the purchase of 19 acres in the 4700 block of Golden Eagle Lane.


Democratic women to meet Saturday


The Carson City Democratic Women's Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Grandma Hattie's Restaurant, 2811 S. Carson St.


A luncheon buffet will be available for $10 per person; the meeting is at noon. Call 841-6355 to RSVP.
