Carson City


Historic Resources Commission meets today at community center


Members of the Historic Resources Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. today in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.


Topics include the upcoming Historic Preservation Awards and the Certified Local Government grants.


Also planned is a presentation about the Stewart Indian School landscape preservation effort.


Family medical resource night at school tonight


Bordewich-Bray Elementary School will be holding a Family Medical Resource Information Night from 6-8 p.m. today in the multipurpose room.


Representatives from several area medical and dental programs and organizations will be at the event to provide families with information on what care is available and on buying insurance.


Baby-sitting and light refreshments will be provided at no cost.

Douglas County


'A Murder Is Announced' at the Douglas library


The Douglas County Public Library in Minden will be holding a mystery party as part of its "A Murder Is Announced" adult reading program at 7 p.m. Friday at the library. The party theme is "No Murder Please, We're British." A British tea of finger sandwiches, scones and fresh fruit will be served. Call 782-9841.




Dem committee to meet


The Douglas County Democratic Central Committee meeting is 7 tonight at the group's headquarters, 1617 Water St., Minden.

Reno


Russian folk music group plans Reno concert


The Sierra Nevada Balalaika Society, a Russian folk music ensemble with authentic dancers and vocalists, will give a show Saturday.


"A Russian Romance" will combine a variety of romantic favorites with traditional Eastern European, Russian and Ukrainian numbers.


The group will perform "Romance" by Shostakovich, "Tonight" from "West Side Story" and "Moi Muzhen'ka," which translates into "My Little Husband," arranged by special guest performer Alexander Tsygankov.


"A Russian Romance" is at 7 p.m. at the Damonte Ranch High School auditorium, 10500 Rio Wrangler Parkway, South Reno. Admission is $20 at the door and $15 advance purchase.
