Carson City


Committee on insurance reform meets today


The Health Insurance Reform Committee will meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. today at the SNEA/AFSCME Local 4041 conference room at 709 E. Robinson St. All public employees concerned with the future of health insurance are encouraged to attend. Call 882-3910, ext. 105.




Historic Resources Commission to meet


The Carson City Historic Resources Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St.


Among items to be considered is an application from Oxoby Engineering to allow an Americans With Disabilities Act Entrance.


Discussion about the First Presbyterian Church has been postponed until May.




National Guard holds retiree breakfast


The Nevada National Guard's monthly retiree breakfast will be at 7:30 a.m. this morning at Grandma Hattie's restaurant at 2811 S. Carson St. There is no cost to attend; attendees order from the menu. Call 884-8428.




CHS holds 'Senior Auction'


This year's Senior Auction, a benefit for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, will be at 6 p.m. tonight at Carson High's Senator Square. Thirty CHS seniors will be auctioned to anyone who chooses to "purchase" them. Students can run any errands or do any chores for the person who "purchases" them. Drinks and dessert will be served. RR Museum hosts 'Water and Timber' lecture


A free slide show lecture entitled "Water and Timber to the Comstock Lode - An Uphill Climb," will be at 7 p.m. tonight at the Railroad Museum, 2180 S. Carson St. Call 687-6953.




Redevelopment workshop slated for Thursday


The first of two scheduled workshops that focus on redevelopment in South Carson is from 3-5 p.m. Thursday at the Carson Area Chamber of Commerce, 1900 S. Carson St.


Landowners are urged to attend and all residents are welcome to obtain information and ask questions.

The Regional Transportation Committee and Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization will meet at 5:30 p.m. today in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St.

Desert Brushes to meet in Douglas County


Painters of all levels and those who would like to learn to paint are welcome to attend the regular meeting of the Carson Valley Desert Brushes at 6 tonight at the Johnson Lane Firehouse, 1450 Stephanie Way. There is no cost. Call 267-3317 or 883-7917.

AAA holds annual 'Great Battery Roundup'


Through April 22, AAA Nevada will be holding its fifth annual Great Battery Roundup. Residents can bring old vehicle or boat batteries to three locations: Auto Guardian, 1036 Greg St. in Sparks; at the Earth Day celebration, drop-off is at the Reno High School parking lot, 395 Booth St.; and at the AAA Nevada District Office at 199 East Moana Lane, in Reno.For every battery, AAA donates $2 to one of four local nonprofit environmental preservation groups.
