Eight out of 18 businesses visited by Carson City deputies and an underage decoy during Tuesday, sold alcohol to a minor, said Deputy Jarrod Adams.

Servers were issued $632 citations at The Laundry Lounge on East Fifth Street, Eagle Valley Market at 933 Woodside Dr., El Aguila Real at 3220 Highway 50 East, Taqueria La Salsa at 1946 Highway 50 East, Panda Kitchen at 1986 Highway 50 East, La Guadalapano, Chevron at 1102 N. Carson Street and the AM PM Mini Mart at 4190 S. Carson St.

Adams said that during the compliance checks, an 18-year-old girl would order alcoholic beverages. If asked for her identification, she would present her real ID. In the instances where she was served, she was not asked for ID, or the servers asked but didn't pay attention to her license, said Adams.

The businesses that passed the check were Four Pints Bar, 7- Eleven at 3838 Highway 50 East, Katie's Bar at 3481 Highway 50 East, 7-Eleven at 3083 Highway 50 East, Gold Dust West Casino at 2171 Highway 50 East, Dotty's at 2262 Highway 50 East, Capitol City Liquor 1511 N. Carson St., Round Table on College Pkwy, 7-Eleven at 3701 N. Carson St., Hunan Garden at 1480 N. Carson St. and Ming's at 2330 S. Carson St.

"Our goal is compliance with the laws and we wish no one would sell alcohol to minors and we would not have to issue any citations," said Adams.

To that end, the Carson City Sheriff's Department offers free alcohol server training.

"If you own a business that sells alcohol, we encourage you to send your employees. Or if you serve or sell alcohol on your job, you are welcome to attend," said Adams.

Questions about the compliance checks, contact Adams at 887-2020 ext. 5314. For information on the free alcohol server training, contact Linda Lang at 882-6674.

As a reminder to servers, Adams noted, if you are serving someone alcohol and they are born before today's date in 1986, then they are under 21, and it is illegal.
