Galena High's Kayla Mariani has signed a letter of intent with the University of Nevada women's swim team.
Mariani, who now lives in Reno, started swimming with the Truckee Torpedos at the age of six under former Coach Nancy Rose. Mariani credits Rose and the Truckee Torpedos as being the foundation of her successful decade long swim career.
Swimming has provided Mariani with the opportunity to travel and compete nationally. Last year she visted the University of Michigan and received swim instruction from Olympic gold metalist Michael Phelps.
"Kayla is an exciting asset to our program and will be able to start scoring points for us the second she steps into UNR's Lombardi Pool," Nevada coach Mike Shrader said.
