A meeting at Bordewich-Bray Elementary School on Thursday night is for parents and guardians to learn more about methamphetamine.

Family Information Night is in conjunction with the Carson City Sheriff's Department and will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the school's library at 110 S. Thompson St.

"This is sponsored by our PTA as an education meeting for our parents," said Bordewich-Bray Principal Sue Keema.

She said law enforcement officials will discuss what methamphetamine is, how it affects people, how to tell if your child or their friends are using methamphetamine and what resources are available in town to help families cope with methamphetamine abuse.

"This was something that we thought we would want to keep out in the forefront," she said.

The school hosted a similar meeting last year.

Also, tonight, "Crystal Darkness," a locally produced documentary about methamphetamine will air simultaneously on most local channels from 7:30-8 p.m.

"Crystal Darkness" is a 30-minute documentary underscoring the truth about meth's attack on our youth and their families, according to a Web site dedicated to the documentary.

The site also contains facts about methamphetamine and a blog where people can share their experiences.

The documentary was spearheaded by Secret Witness along with a partnership with the Washoe County School District, Meth Community Response Alliance, Join Together Northern Nevada and Partnership Carson City
