A graveside service for Jim P. Kahler, 82, a six-year Carson City resident, will be 11 a.m. today at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.

Mr. Kahler died Jan. 6, 2007, in Carson City. He was born Dec. 30, 1924, in Washington County, Md., to Jacob and Barbara Kahler.

He married Lila F. Kahler on Sept. 25, 1953, in Virginia City.

Before moving to Carson City, Mr. Kahler lived in Reno for many years.

He was employed with Mutual of Omaha for more than 20 years, and had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He worked as a volunteer for the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Reno for eight years.

He was preceded in death by his mother and by brother Robert Kahler.

Among his survivors are his wife, of Carson City; son and daughter-in-law Scot J. and Eileen Kahler of Carson City; sisters Elizabeth Vaughan, Barbara Miles and Louise Prather, all of Baltimore; brother Benjamin "Buddy" Kahler of Baltimore; and three grandchildren.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
