After-school crafts featured at library

After-school crafts will be featured at the Dayton Branch Library. The program is geared toward first- through fifth-graders.

The program is 3:30-4:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at the library, 321 Old Dayton Valley Road. Call 246-6212.

Library offers story time for children

Children's Story Time is 10:30 a.m. each Wednesday at the Dayton Library, 321 Old Dayton Valley Road. The program is designed for preschool-age children. Call 246-6212.

Hike scheduled for El Dorado Canyon

Weather permitting and subject to trail conditions, a hike in scenic El Dorado Canyon will take place Saturday for the Carson City Senior Center and Sunday for the Sierra Club.

These 12-mile round trips hikes are open to all experienced and conditioned hikers.

A portion of El Dorado Canyon has a year-round stream with willows and cottonwoods, and the hike will cross it many times. There will be varied rock formations and lunch at a large natural arch.

Elevation gain will be under 1,000 feet, but the pace will be fast. No dogs.

Dayton High Boosters to meet at library

The Dayton High School Booster Club's board meeting is 7 p.m. Monday at the school library.

Fallon

Portuguese singing star to perform

The Churchill Arts Council will present a performance by Portuguese singer Ana Moura at the Oats Park Art Center in Fallon at 8 p.m. Jan. 27. Doors open at 7, and there will be a no-host bar.

Tickets are $17 for CAC members or $20 for nonmembers and are available in Fallon at Jeff's Copy Express, Postage Plus and ITT/NAS Fallon.

CAC also now accepts Visa and Mastercard for ticket purchases at (775) 423-1440.

Silver Springs

Karate classes offered for kids

The Lyon County Human Services Recreation Division is offering kids' karate classes 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Silver Springs.

Tuesday classes will be at the Pony Express Room at the Silver Springs Elementary and Silver Stage Middle schools; and on Wednesday, in the cafeteria.

Cost is $5 per child and $2.50 for an additional child from a family.
