Chamber looking for volunteers for golf tournament

The Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its 13th annual golf tournament Aug. 5 and needs players, sponsors and volunteers to help make it happen.

Hole watchers, runners, committee members, coordinators, reservationists, check-in persons and bag-stuffers are all needed.

Hike to El Dorado Canyon planned

A moderate, 12-mile hike to El Dorado Canyon near Dayton is planned for Sunday.

There will be a less than 1,000-foot elevation gain for the day, with many stream crossings and varied rock formations seen.

High clearance vehicles are needed, or share a ride. No dogs allowed.

This hike will benefit the Carson City Senior Citizens Center; a voluntary $1 donation per participant is requested.

Fallon

Rock 'n' roll show scheduled

The Churchill Arts Council will present a new-rock concert by the Richmond Fontaine Band at 8 p.m. June 10 in the Barkley Theatre in the Oats Park Art Center in Fallon.

The band, which has been performing together for 10 years, is from Portland, Ore., and headed by Reno native Willy Vlautinógives.

Tickets are $17 for CAC members; $20 for nonmembers at Jeff's Copy Express, Postage Plus, ITT at NAS Fallon or at (775) 423-1440.

'Forever Plaid' musical at Oats Park

"Forever Plaid," the comedy featuring four singers killed in a crash and then revived to live their musical dream, will tour to the Oats Park Theater in Fallon.

After sold-out performances in Carson City, the Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company will take the show to Fallon at 4 p.m. June 25.

"Forever Plaid" stars Steve Murdoch, David Tillitt, Steve Meyer and Alan Jones.

Candidate to address Lyon Democrats

Dr. Geoffrey Vander Pal, candidate for state treasurer, will address the Lyon County Democratic Central Committee meeting at 6 p.m. June 19 at the Lyon County Democratic headquarters, 15 East Main St., Suite 5 in Fernley.

The July meeting will be 7 p.m. July 24 in Dayton. This will be a candidates' night, featuring both state and local candidates. The August meeting will be in Silver Springs at the senior center, with the date to be announced.

Pony Express Week celebrated

The Silver Stage Friends of the Library will hold the Pony Express Wine and Art Shindig from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday at Buckland Station to celebrate Nevada history. Cost is $15 per person and $20 per couple.

Two shows set for Piper's Opera

"Cathouse Afternoon," a musical theater set in the 1870s, returns to Piper's Opera House Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m. June 16-July 8, with a matinee June 17 at 2 p.m.

"Ol' Plumbottom," a rap/hip hop original musical with a mine-safety theme, will be the Saturday matinee June 24-July 8.

There will be two half-hour shows at 1 and 2 p.m. for youth and their families. Call 847-7150.

Washoe Valley

Hike to Jumbo Falls rescheduled

A hike to Jumbo Falls above Washoe Lake is scheduled for Saturday, after it was canceled last week because of weather.

The route is 12 miles round trip, with a half-mile of vertical ascent. Dress for questionable weather and bring plenty of water. No dogs allowed.
