'Forever Plaid' musical goes from Carson to Oats Park Theatre

"Forever Plaid," a comedy featuring four singers killed in a crash then revived to live their musical dream, will be performed at the Oats Park Theater in Fallon.

After sold-out performances in Carson City, the Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company will present at 4 p.m. June 25.

"Forever Plaid" stars Steve Murdoch, David Tillitt, Steve Meyer and Alan Jones.

State treasurer candidate to address Lyon Democrats

Dr. Geoffrey Vander Pal, candidate for state treasurer, will address the Lyon County Democratic Central Committee meeting at 6 p.m. June 19 at 6 p.m. at the Lyon County Democratic headquarters, 15 E, Main St., Suite 5 in Fernley.

The July meeting will be on July 24 at 7 p.m. in Dayton. This will be a candidates' night, featuring both state and local hopefuls.

The August meeting will be in Silver Springs at the senior center, with the date to be announced.

Two musical shows set for Piper's

"Cathouse Afternoon," a musical theater set in the 1870s, returns to Piper's Opera House Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m. June 16-July 8, with a matinee June 17 at 2 p.m.

"Ol' Plumbottom," a rap/hip hop original musical with a mine-safety theme, will be the Saturday matinee June 24-July 8.

There will be two half-hour shows at 1 and 2 p.m. for families. Call 847-7150.

Hike ascends to reservoirs that supplied water to Virginia City

A hike Sunday will start at the Lakeview area of Carson City and ascend to the Marlette/Hobart reservoirs near Virginia City.

Included will be a look at the circa 1870 box flume at McClellan Peak, which transported drinking water to Virginia City.

Depending on the progress and enthusiasm, the hike could be from six to 12 or more miles. Elevation gain might be 2,000 feet.

The hike will be done for the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, which asks for a dollar voluntary donation per hiker.

Comstock jazz festival planned

Jazzin' Up the Comstock, a new jazz festival June 17-16 from 1 to 6 p.m., will feature jazz performers in many of Virginia City's historic saloons and one outdoor performance in the center of town.

Special "Cool Jazz Train Rides on the V&T," with a saxophonist performing, will be Saturday and Sunday aboard the 3, 4 and 5 p.m. trains.

The Mile High Jazz Band will perform in the parking lot and other jazz acts will be at the Union Brewery, Washoe Club, Delta Saloon and Sgt. Major's Silver Dollar Saloon.

Other groups scheduled to perform are Grumpy Old Men, Robin Turley, Danny Greco and Moonlight Express.

Admission to the performances in the saloons are free, though there may be a drink purchase required.

Parade entries for Fourth sought

Anyone seeking to join the giant Fourth of July parade in Virginia City should contact the visitors center for an application form.

Applications are due by June 27 for an advance position in the parade. Late entries are still welcome, but will be put at the end of the parade.

All entry types are welcome, from marching units to musical units, antique cars and equestrians.
