Share what you know: become a mentor


There will be a mentor orientation training from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday. To be a mentor, you don't need any special skills - just an ability to listen and to offer friendship, guidance, and encouragement to a young person. Contact the Mentor Center of Western Nevada, a program of the Boys and Girls Club, at the Western Nevada Community College at 445-3346.




Musical theater workshop at museum


The Wild Horse Children's Theater and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada will be holding a musical theater workshop from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the museum.


This workshop is designed for students ages 7 through 13 who enjoy singing and acting. Students will learn three show tunes and leave the class with these songs on CD for auditions. Cost is $30 for this two-hour session. Space is limited.

Afternoon bingo to benefit Young at Heart


The Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club will be holding an afternoon of community bingo noon Sunday at the Douglas County Senior Citizens Center. Doors open at noon; early-bird games begin at 1 p.m., with regular games beginning at 1:30 p.m.


There will be free coffee, iced tea, and other refreshments. Hot dogs, burritos and sodas are available for a donation.


All proceeds go to benefit the Young at Heart club. Bingo is open to anyone 21 years of age or older. For information, call 267-4897 or 783-6455.

An "Exploring Nevada" video program about Reno's divorce era will show 3 p.m. Sunday at the Wilbur D. May Museum at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. There is no cost.

'Treasures of the Mint' video presentation Monday by history society


A half-hour episode of the Department of Cultural Affairs' "Exploring Nevada" series entitled "Treasures of the Mint" will be shown noon Monday at the Nevada Historical Society, 1650 N. Virginia St.


The documentary will show the annual coin show held at the Nevada State Museum.
