Investigators are searching for a gunman who robbed an east Carson City check-cashing business on Friday.

According to Carson City Sheriff's Detective Dave Legros, a man entered Advance America in the 3300 block of Highway 50 East about 6:30 p.m., pulled a handgun from his waistband and forced the lone clerk to the back of the store to open the safe.

"He just basically ordered him to open the safe, give him the money and then sit in a chair, turn around and count to 30," Legros said.

The bandit then stuffed the money into his sweatshirt and left the store on foot in an unknown direction, said Legros.

He said the suspect is described as a white male in his 30s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, with ungroomed dark facial hair and a medium build. He was wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. The incident was captured on closed-circuit television inside the store.

"If anyone knows anything, contact me," said Legros.

He can be reached at 887-2020 ext. 1405.
