Donate blood for chance to win a plasma TV


Blood donors who donate during the month of January will be able to enter United Blood Services' Super Bowl raffle for a chance to win a 42 inch plasma screen television, to be awarded in time to watch the Super Bowl in style.

Cornerstone ceremony at medical center


The public is invited to attend a cornerstone ceremony at the Aspen Auditorium of the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.


Grand Lodge F. & A.M. Freemasons of Nevada will lay a cornerstone and a time capsule, containing information pertinent to healthcare in 2007 and the history of Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. It will be sealed for 100 years. For information, call 445-5166 or 445-5161.




Sierra Lyric Opera presents Mendelsohn's 'Elijah'


Gary Aldrich will direct the Sierra Lyric Opera in a performance of Mendelsohn's "Elijah" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Brewery Arts Center's Performance Hall, located at 449 W. King St.


Tickets are $15 general admission, $12 for seniors and BAC members, and $7.50 for children 12 and under, and those with a student ID. For information or to buy tickets, call 883-1976.




Douglas County


County senior services seeking volunteers


Douglas County Senior Services is seeking volunteers for the Companion program. Companions assist seniors with chores, offering companionship, and providing transportation to seniors who otherwise might not be able to remain independent and live in their homes. Volunteers are reimbursed for gas mileage and insured under the county's workers compensation program.

Lake Tahoe


Ski race this Sunday


The Tahoe City Classic 15 kilometer diagonal stride race will be at 10 a.m. Sunday. This race, sponsored by the Sierra Nordic XC Ski Shop, costs $20 if registration takes place today, or $25 on the day of the race. Juniors will start at 10:05 a.m. and are free.
