The anterior cruciate ligament injury is one of the most common and painful ski accidents. Vermont Safety Research has studied the accident through hundreds of films of such falls. Here is what the organization has found the simplest way to avoid an ACL injury:

• Keep your arms forward of the ski bindings.

• Keep the skis together.

• Keep the hips above the knees.

• Don't try to get up until you stop sliding.

• Don't let the uphill arm get to the back.

• Keep the uphill ski unweighted.
