One-armed surfer's film shown in Reno

Bethany Hamilton, a 13-year-old girl destined for a successful surfing career, lost her arm to a 14-foot tiger shark in 2003. The attack compelled her to discover her purpose in life as she overcame the loss of her arm and got back on the board just three weeks later.

Her documentary, "Heart of a Soul Surfer," will be shown at 6 p.m. Feb. 18 at Reno Christian Fellowship, 1700 Zolezzi Lane.

The documentary features exclusive surf and family footage of Bethany before and after the attack, including her first attempts at surfing with one arm and her winning the 2005 NSSA National Surfing Championship, just 19 months after the attack.

Since her attack, Bethany has appeared on "Oprah" and "The Today Show." She has written the best-selling "Soul Surfer."
