Nevada Capitals explode against Manogue A's

Appeal Staff Report

David Leid and Ray Barrett combined for 10 RBI in leading the Nevada Capitals to a 19-13 victory over the Bishop Manogue A's Monday at Manogue High School.

Rob Valerius, Joe Skates, Tyler Smith, Paul Cagle and Brooks Greenlee shared the duty from the mound for the Capitals, who improved to 5-0 in their six-game warm-up before heading off for two weeks of baseball in Australia.

Cagle, who plays for the Carson Senators, pitched three strong innings and also went 3-for-5 from the plate. Several other Senators, including Valerius, Skates and Greenlee had good games.

Leid finished 4-for-4, with 4 RBI and a double, Matt Rutledge went 4-for-5 with two doubles and Bryt Lewis was 2-for-5.

Barrett had a monster game, going 3-for-5 with a home run, 6 RBI and a double, while Cody Stevens had three hits, including a double and a triple, and Matt Aboumrad finished 3-for-5.

The Capitals are coached by Ron McNutt, who guided the Senators for 29 years, and will face the Nevada Bighorns today at 7 p.m. at Carson High's Ron McNutt Field.

"The Bighorns are a college team and we're a high school team, but it gives us some good experience no matter what the score," McNutt said. "We're going to do what we have to do to get ready for the trip."

Admission to tonight's game is $3.
