Dolores 'Dee' Helmer Mays

A memorial Mass for Dolores "Dee" Helmer Mays, 78, a Carson City resident for 35 years will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Teresa of Avila Church.

Mrs. Mays died June 29, 2007, in Genoa. She was born Sept. 29, 1928, in Taft, Texas, to Marin and Ruth DeLeon. Before moving to Carson City she lived in Ajo, Ariz., for fifteen years.

She married Ronald Mays in Carson City.

Mrs. Mays graduated from high school in Benicia, Calif. She was a special education and English as a Second Language teacher.

She was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church and the Elks Club. She was Woman of the Year with the American Business Women's Association.

Mrs. Mays was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers Robert and John.

Among her survivors are sons James Branstetter of Carson City, and John Helmer of Washoe Valley; daughters D. McBride of Maui, Hawaii, and Ruth Helmer Caywood and her husband Cary of Monterey, Calif.; sister Rose Vidaure of Stockton, Calif.; brothers Trino, Alex and Manuel DeLeon of Stockton; six grandchildren; three great-children and numerous extended family members.

Walton's Sierra Crematory is handling the cremation. Walton's Douglas County Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Inurnment will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery.
