Carson City


AYSO camps offered twice this summer


Carson City AYSO has arranged for two soccer camps this summer at Edmonds Sports Complex.


The first camp will be July 16-20 from 9 a.m.-noon and cost $97 or 9 a.m.-3 p.m. for $142.


The second camp will be Aug. 6-10 and offers both a mini camp $79 in the morning for 4Ð6 year olds and halfÐday, 9 a.m.-noon or evening 5-8:00 p.m. camp for $101 for ages 6Ð16. Information and registration for both camps is online at www.challengersports.com.


Evening of Big-band Jazz will be under the stars


The Mile High Jazz Band will present an evening of "Big-band Jazz Under the Stars" 8-10 p.m. today at the Comma Coffee Courtyard.


Admission is $5 general, $4 for members of the Mile High Jazz Band Association and free for age 18 and under. Swing dance instruction from 6-7:30 p.m. is $5 additional. Call 883-4154, or visit MileHighJazz.com.


Web site readers wanted for research study


The Sierra Nevada Media Group is conducting research on how people use the company's Web sites, and how they can be improved.


Those chosen to participate will be asked to keep a short log of their Internet activities, and sit down for an interview. They will be paid $100 for the help.

Republican Central Committee meeting at Lake Tahoe


The Douglas County Republican Central Committee will hold its monthly meeting Thursday at the Douglas County Lake Offices, 175 Highway 50, Stateline.


Social hour is 6:30-7 p.m. and 7-7:30 p.m. "Talking Points" under the direction of Jack Van Dien will be held. Usually one or two topics will be highlighted and members can voice their concerns. The meeting is at 7:30 with guest speaker university Regent Ron Knecht, District 9.

Spend an evening with a ranger at Bowers Mansion


Bowers Mansion Regional Park off Highway 395 is offering a series of family Evenings With A Ranger from July 12-Aug. 9.


Programs include:


July 12 - Native American Plant Walk, a basic introduction to plants and their uses.


July 19 - Fishing at Wilson Commons (meet at Wilson Commons Park, about 1.5 miles south of Bowers Mansion off William Brent Road).


July 26 - History of Washoe Valley, an introduction to Washoe Valley's role in the history of the Silver State.


Aug. 2 - The Bowers Graveyard Hike, a short, guided hike up to the Bowers family graveyard and the stories of those who are buried there.


Aug. 9 - Young Chautauquans, stories of early Nevada shared by the mansion's' special guests.
