A memorial service for Donald Raye Atkins, 69, will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Chapel.
Mr. Atkins died June 30, 2007, at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. Mr. Atkins was born Dec. 30, 1937, in Savanna, Ill., to Ira Atkins and Gertrude M. Sullivan.
He married Barbara Blosser on Sept. 1, 1957, at Fort Sam Houston Army Base in San Antonio, Texas. Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Grass Valley, Calif.
He was a member of the U.S. Air Force. He worked in the electronic and computer field.
Mr. Atkins was a member of the Calvary Chapel and Commander of American Legion High Desert Post 56.
He received the Jefferson Medal Award. He served the veterans by forming the honor guard in Carson City. He enjoyed NASCAR racing.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred, Bob, Len and Ed, and sisters Betty, Irene and Lucille.
Among his survivors are his wife, of Carson City; son and daughter-in-law Michael R. and Michaela Atkins of Fernley; son Greg of Marysville, Calif.; sisters-in-law Sumi Atkins of Lacey, Wash., Marie Socorro of San Antonio, Texas and Darlene Atkins of Kansas; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Inurnment will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Veterans Hall at Second and Curry streets.
