A memorial service for Virginia Lee Western, 91, a five-year resident of Carson City, will be Aug. 18, 2007, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pueblo, Colo.

Mrs. Western died July 4, 2007, in Carson City. She was born July 14, 1915, in Ursula, Ark., to John M. and Jessie O. Newlon Hackler.

She married Laurence L. Western on Oct. 11, 1945, in Longview, Texas.

Prior to moving to Carson City, Mrs. Western lived in Pueblo for 56 years.

She was a high school graduate. Mrs. Western retired in 1977 from the Department of the U.S. Army Civil Service. In 1945, she became a member of the Women's Army Corps and served as a surgical technician. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pueblo and a member of Pueblo Rockhounds. She enjoyed rock collecting.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1970 in Pueblo; daughter Jane Perkins in Pueblo in 1971.

Among her survivors are sons and daughter-in-la Marvin and Bonnie Western of Hampton, Va.; daughter and son-in-law Lauri and Rod Dunn of Carson City; sister Jane Cummings of Greensboro, N.C.; sister-in-law Mariella Dibble of Keizer, Ore.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Mary Alice Western of Denver; three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial will be at Imperial Memorial Gardens in Pueblo.

Capitol City Cremations and Burial Society is in charge of the arrangements.
