Carson 13s roll past South Tahoe

The Carson 13-year-old all-stars got off to an impressive start in the State Babe Ruth Tournament in baseball with a 9-0 win over South Tahoe on Saturday.

Carter Nuckolls, Cole Dufresne and Max Keller combined on the shutout for Carson. Nuckolls allowed two hits over the first two innings, Dufresne pitched four scoreless innings and Keller finished up, pitching a scoreless seventh.

Carson took a 1-0 lead in the first when Cody Scarlett and Brock Pradere singled and Nuckolls followed with an RBI sacrifice fly. In the second, Keller and Tim Baylor walked before Scarlett hit a two-run single to make it 3-0.

In the fourth, Baylor walked and after a wild pitch, Seth Rojas followed with an RBI single. Rojas went to third on an error on the play. Drew Moreland and Nuckolls then hit RBI singles to make it 6-0.

After there were two outs in the sixth, Pradere walked, Nuckolls followed with an RBI double, Nuckolls scored on an error when a deep flyball hit by Nate Landes was dropped and Landes scored on a passed ball to make it 9-0.

Nuckolls went 3-for-3 with three RBI and Scarlett was 2-for-3. Carson advanced to a winner's bracket game at 4 p.m. today in Fallon.
