Appeal Staff Report

The Carson 14-year-old Babe Ruth all-star baseball team won its opener at the State Tournament at Sparks' Golden Eagle Regional Complex, beating North Tahoe 13-8 on Thursday.

Cody Scarlett had two runs and a stolen base, Collin McCullogh went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs, two RBI and two stolen bases, Drew Moreland went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and a stolen base, Carter Nuckolls scored a run, Nate Landes went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI, Jace Carlson was 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI and four stolen bases, Seth Rojas went 1-for-3 with a run, Ty Welch had an RBI sacrifice fly and a run and Cole Dufresne went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Dufresne was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits over 4 1/3 innings. Moreland picked up the save, allowing one earned run on two hits while striking out three in 2 2/3 innings. Carson will play in a winners bracket game at 8 p.m. today against Reno West.
