Rasner resumes throwing

Darrell Rasner resumed throwing for the first time on Saturday after sustaining a broken finger in May.

The 1999 Carson High graduate is playing catch on flat ground. He threw from 75 feet on Saturday and was going to do so again today. "It feels fine," Rasner said. "It's just a matter of building my arm strength back up."

Rasner suffered a broken finger after being struck by a ball hit up the middle during his start for the New York Yankees on May 19 against the New York Mets. At the time it was estimated that Rasner would be out for three months.

But Rasner said he expected to be back sooner and based on his current timetable he looks like he could be on his way to coming back sooner than expected. This season with the Yankees, Rasner has posted a 1-3 record with a 4.01 earned run average.
