Brolsma and Parsley lead Astros over Bighorns

Former Carson High stars Owen Brolsma and Logan Parsley helped the Reno Astros pull away from the Nevada Bighorns in a 9-2 win on Wednesday at Moana Stadium.
The Bighorns trailed just 4-2 after six innings before the Astros scored three runs in the seventh inning and two in the eighth. The Astros jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second. Former Galena and Western Nevada College star Andrew Ferguson hit an RBI sacrifice fly and Parsley, who will be a sophomore at WNC, followed with an RBI triple.
The Bighorns came back to tie the game 2-2 in the third. Eric Melendez singled and Shane Kockenmeister followed with a sacrifice bunt. After Kevin Schlange singled, Tyson Jaquez hit an RBI double and Schlange scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-2.
The Astros went up 4-2 in the fourth. Mike Gillies singled and Brolsma hit an RBI double. Parsley had an RBI sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.
In the seventh, Gillies tripled and Brolsma followed with an RBI single. Brolsma scored on a flyball and Parsley hit an RBI single to make it 7-2. In the eighth, Gillies hit an RBI single and Brolsma hit an RBI triple to make it 9-2.
Brolsma and Gillies each had three hits, Parsley had two hits and former Galena and University of Nevada star Jeff Tolotti added a single. Nick Nyman and Daniel Eastham each had two hits and Ryan Simpson added a hit for the Bighorns. Starting pitcher Billy Moss (2 1/3 innings) and Jeff Young (3 2/3 innings) combined to pitch six effective innings for the Bighorns.
The Bighorns will next play on Saturday against El Dorado Hills (Calif.) in a doubleheader at Ron McNutt Field, beginning at 3 p.m.
