Built entirely using donations, Austin's House will provide a home environment for up to 10 children in crisis.

The Carson Valley Children's Center, also known as Austin's House, will hold its grand opening Aug. 2.

The 5,382-square-foot home is located in North Douglas County at 3589 Sunridge Drive directly behind the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Substation.

"There have been so many individuals and businesses that have made amazing gifts to make this dream come true," said Conrad Buedel. "We wish sincere gratitude and thanks to all of you. We are truly blessed to live in this beautiful Carson Valley with such generous neighbors."

Several dignitaries have been invited to the dedication ceremony at noon, including Gov. Jim Gibbons, Nevada's congressional delegation and Douglas County commissioners.

There will be an open house with tours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 2. Cake and light refreshments will be served.

The open house will be the public's sole opportunity to tour the grounds.

Now that construction is completed, fundraising efforts to pay for operational expenses are beginning.

Buedel said the annual budget to operate the house exceeds $500,000.

Anyone wishing to make a donation should call 782-6247 or visit www.austinshouse.org.
