Rail Museum hosts train rides July 28-29


The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City will host a series of Steam Ups and Motor Car rides aboard historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad equipment.


Motor car rides are scheduled for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. today and a Steam Up is set for July 28-29.


Fares for Motor Car rides are $4 for adults; $3 for seniors 65 and up, $2 for children 6 to 11 and free for children 5 and under. Fares for Steam Ups are $5 for adults; $4 for seniors 65 and up; $3 for children 6 to 11 and children 5 and under ride free.


Vendors sought for Patriot Fund event


You Can't Say No ... You Gotta Go is looking for craft vendors and car and bike enthusiasts to honor the Nevada Veterans and our fallen heroes and their families. Silver Oak Golf Course-Event Center and the Patriot Fund of Nevada, a nonprofit organization, is hosting an inaugural statewide fundraising event from 3-11 p.m. Sept. 29 with all proceeds going to the Patriot Fund of Nevada.


This will be a great time to honor our vets with a classic car and bike show, military equipment, vendors, street dance, entertainment, many guest celebrities and fireworks.

Afro-beat rolls at Truckee Park


Singer, composer and bandleader Femi Kuti takes Afro-beat to new levels today at the Truckee Regional Park Amphitheater on Brockway Drive in Truckee along with the Reggae Cowboys.


Gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the music is from 5:30 'til 10. This is a family festival with lawns and shade, arts and crafts vendors, a beer garden and food vendors.


The Reggae Cowboys are back with their trademark reggae-country-rock.

Ricardo Cobo offers two concerts


Widely regarded as one of the greatest guitarists on the planet, Ricardo Cobo is in high demand as a soloist, lecturer, chamber musician and recording artist.


Classical guitarist Ricardo Cobo plays two concerts today and Tuesday, the first at 7 p.m. at the Cal Neva Resort at 2 Stateline Road, Crystal Bay;, the second will be in Reno at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 200 Island Ave., Reno, at 7:30 p.m.


Also featured will be regional guitarist Larry Aynesmith.

Bear Mountain fest stars Rosanne Cash


Music comes back to the mountains this summer for the 39th season of the Bear Valley Music Festival.


The Bear Valley Music Festival opens with country music singer/songwriter, Rosanne Cash on Saturday. Bear Mountain is east of Murphys and Arnold on the Highway 4 approach to Ebbetts Pass.
