CHS youth football clinic is Saturday

The seventh annual Carson High Pop Warner and Scholars and Champions football clinic will be held on Saturday, August 4.

Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. at the CHS junior varsity baseball field the clinic will run from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Cost is $25, which includes lunch and a T-shirt.

CHS football begins practice August 9

The Carson High football program will begin practice on August 9. Varsity and junior varsity players will meet at 7 a.m. at the CHS junior varsity baseball field and freshmen will meet at 8 a.m. in the weightroom.

Players must complete their athletic packets, which can be done beginning August 6 at the CHS athletic office. Athletic packets should be completed preferably by August 7 and no later than Wednesday morning, August 8.

All Carson High student-athletes competing in fall sports are required to have clearance from the Athletic Office which includes filling out and signing all forms in the athletic packet.

Physicals are required every two years. Physicals will be offered from 6 to 7 p.m. August 6 at CHS. Students must be cleared to participate in fall sports. Student body cards, which cost $25, are also required for athletes and anyone in an extracurricular activity.

Athletes also need to have a mandatory yearly concussion test, which costs $5. All fees have to be paid to the CHS Student Finance Office in order to participate.

Athletic packets will be available at the CHS Athletic Office beginning August 6. The office will be open from 7-10:30 a.m. and from 11:30-2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Cross country - 7 p.m. August 13, east side of Mills Park; football - August 9, 7 a.m., junior varsity and varsity; 8 a.m., freshmen; boys soccer, 9 a.m.-noon, 4-6 p.m. August 13; girls soccer, 7-10 a.m., 6-8 p.m. August 13; boys and girls tennis, 7 a.m. August 13; volleyball - 9 a.m. to noon, 1 to 4 p.m., August 13.

CHS will also be offering a volleyball camp from 9 a.m.-noon August 7-10. Cost is $40 and includes a T-shirt.

Dayton Valley Soccer signups set

The final signups for the upcoming Dayton Valley Soccer League have beens scheduled. Signups will be held from 5-8 p.m. August 9 and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. August 11 at Smiths in Dayton.

The cost for returning spring players is $25. Cost for first-time players is $65, which includes a uniform and soccer ball. All players receive team and individual photos, player insurance and an end of the year award.

Players will be given a chance to join one of the nation's top 10 and under softball teams when tryouts are held for the Nevada Lightning 10 and under team.

Lightning 10-under tryouts August 25

Tryouts for the rest of 2007 and the 2008 season will be held at 10 a.m. August 25 at Reno's Idlewild Park. To be eligible, players cannot turn 11 by January 1. For more information, call Penny Tenpenny, 690-0458.
